Breeveen forest, destroyed in June '21 by a microburst.

Leersum, a small town in the Netherlandsland that was hit by a violent microburst almost two years ago. Part of the village suffered severe damage, but also 16 hectares of woodland was destroyed within a minute.
Now, it happened to be a former production forest of pine trees, purchased by the national nature preservation organisation with the intention of letting it return to a natural forest in the next decades. So this microburst was more or less a blessing in disguise: it catapulted the area a few decades forward in the planning.
Instead of replanting trees they decided to leave it as is, and just built a bridge to show the audience how the forest recuperates naturally from these natural disasters.
